Halloween Biscuits

So as I mentioned in my update post I do love a theme and Halloween is the perfect time to get creative and if you can eat your creation then it's even better! These were actually Tony's idea and I half expected that he would be all for it and then when the time came to making them he wouldn't be as enthusiastic but he actually really got into it! I feel this recipe is really adaptable for any seasonal event be it Christmas Easter valentines day or just for a spot of Sunday baking.

Things you'll need
150g plain flour
150g self raising flour
1 egg
125g unsalted butter
100g sugar (I used brown sugar
2 teaspoons of cinnamon or mixed spice
popping candy (optional)
for the decoration
Orange fondant icing
Black fondant icing
White fondant icing
(any Halloween type colours will work really purples and greens would be great to)
seasonal sprinkles (I got some great finds at my local hobby craft)
So I begun with all the boring stuff, greasing the baking trays with a little oil and pre-heating the oven to gas mark 4.Once that was done I set to measure out the ingredients, I started with combining the dry ingredients together so the flour, and and the spices, from here in a separate bowl combine the butter and sugar until it makes a smooth paste. Once happy whisk in the egg for a minute or two. Combine the two bowls and mix until a smooth dough is formed that you can then roll onto a clean surface.
Once rolled you can begin to use your Halloween cookie cutters, I found mine on amazon and they included a great selection of Halloween shapes. Cut out your desired choices and place carefully onto your baking tray and bake in the oven for around 20 minutes or until they have hardened. Place on a wire rack to cool before decorating.
In the meantime you can prepare your decorating station! I rolled out my fondant icing and and used the same cutters to create my fondant shapes. I also prepared some icing sugar and water to stick the fondant to the biscuit and it worked great! it also helped a great deal for creating a nice glossy shine on the biscuit. Me and Tony stood at the kitchen side board all cramped up over one tea towel to decorate the biscuits I think in the future I would bring all the bits into the living room and lay it out on the table and decorate them whilst we had a scary movie on in the background would of been alot more cosy!
